President Trump issued a presidential proclamation on October 4, 2019, which would require certain cases of intending immigrants to prove that he or she will obtain health insurance within 30 days of entry in the United States or unless the immigrant can show he or she has sufficient financial resources to pay for reasonably foreseeable medical costs. This proclamation was intended to become effective on November 3, 2019.
On November 2, 2019, Judge Michael Simon, US District Judge in Portland, Oregon, granted a nationwide temporary restraining order preventing the implementation of the rule. This temporary restraining order is in place for 28 days and a hearing is scheduled for later this month.
The important thing for immigrant visa applicants to know at this time is that the rule is currently not in place while the case works its way through the courts.
