COVID-19 UPDATE: USCIS to Reopen June 4 to Immigration Interviews

Latest News

USCIS has stated that it has scheduled the reopening of its offices for June 4, 2020. This date has changed in the past, and it could change again. Those applicants who have been waiting on interview dates, or whose interviews were cancelled due to the COVID-19 crisis, can expect to see new notices in the mail soon.

We usually see immigration interviews scheduled about a month to a month-and-a-half out. These interviews are generally for marriage-based immigrant petitions and applications. It is expected that the backlog caused by cancelled immigration interviews will be substantial.

It is important to note that USCIS has still been processing petitions and applications that do not require an interview. I have had several family based immigration petitions approved during this crisis.

We know there will be delays in processing caused by this crisis. How long the delays will be is a question we will have to wait to find out. In the meantime, USCIS will continue to receive applications and petitions for immigration benefits.
